  2. QUESTION:
I have a dry cracking sore in the left corner of my mouth. I have not kissed anyone in years, I do take some?
medications that warn of drymouth. I have always taken them though What can this be and is there a cure.? It is a really large crack in the left corner of my mouth ? Thanks
I am using BLISTEX and it is working.

    • ANSWER:
I have the same thing. I have no idea what’s causing it, but I’ve been using blistex medicated ointment which is helping.

  3. QUESTION:
Painful cuts/cracks in corners of mouth?
My husband has been complaining of dry lips and the corners of his mouth have little cracks in them and are quite red and sore. This has been going on for a few weeks and today I have noticed a little cut in the corner of my mouth that is sore, I have also been experiencing dryer than normal lips, could I have caught something from him or is it environmental? Several months ago we moved to a place with higher humidity and temperatures then we are used to, this is the only thing I can think that could be causing it. Anyone got any cures?
We are going through lip chaps / balms like crazy, it’s not cold here its hot ie: average 33C (91.4F) with 79% humidity (tropical) BUT we are in airconditioned rooms all day and eve, that’s probably it!. Its DEF not herpes/coldsores.

    • ANSWER:
I wouldn’t do the sucking on candy, but the lipchap is a great idea. It’s the moisture wicking out of your lips. It is environmental – probably as you go in and out from home, to work etc. the saliva is evaporating off your lips (saliva usually gathers more in the corners, that’s why there) and leaving your skin dry and constricted (it can adhere together, while part sticks and rips, or just crack on its own) – when you move it cracks.
It would normally happen to me in the winter most but ocasionally in summer, too. My home had a higher humidity or outside did, but work was bone dry – always drinking water.
Just keep using balm; works like a charm. I always get one from Shoppers, I’m out at the moment and my lips are suuuuper dry – if I sneezed, they’d crack!

Ouch! Good luck! Licking your lips is brutal for this!

Edit: herpes doesn’t manifeset like a cut/crack – it’s a usually roundish sore (cold sores are herpes).

  4. QUESTION:
How to cure lips that are cracked at the corners?
With the change in the weather, my lips have cracked at the corners, and won’t seem to heal. (I’m assuming because every time you open your mouth, the cracks re-open). Does anyone have a cure for this? I’ve tried all kinds of over-the-counter lip ointments, as well as vitamin E. Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
Most chapped lips are actually because the saliva has digestive enzymes that “eat” the skin on the lips. Then bacteria takes over, causing the itching and irritation. I’ve found that balms actually extend chapped lips conditions. The best cure I’ve found is applying hydrogen peroxide to the lips. Sometimes the lips are cured and silky smooth the next morning.

Apply glossy lipstick on you lips, Use unflavored lip balm on your lips, Avoid flavored tooth paste, Use a humidifier to humidify your lips, Increase intake of water and other non alcoholic liquids, Rub cucumber slice on your lips, Apply margosa leaf extract on your lips, Put some aloe vera gel on your lips, Take a saline bath

Vitamin A is very important for the growth and repair of the skin. See to it that your diet provides you with sufficient quantity of vitamin A. Carrots, tomatoes and green leafy vegetables are the good sources of vitamin A.

Make a vitamin rich juice by adding 1 tbsp. of water cress, carrot and spinach juice, 2 tbsp. wheat germ oil, one glass of tomato juice, and 1 tbsp. of nutritional yeast. Eat whole grains, legumes and nutritional yeast.

If home remedies do not work than it is advisable to see a dermatologist as soon as possible.

  5. QUESTION:
How to get rid of cold sores in the corner of my mouth?
I have cold sores at the corner of my mouth. It’s darker than my skin color, so it’s really noticable. At times, it randomly gets red and something would build up in the corners. I’ve always had bad skin conditions.
There is this raised lump at the corner as well, and that part often gets red or brownish, and it is REALLY embarrassing. And I’m 13, it’s winter time, here in New York, so it’s really cold.
Also, what are some moisturizer for the lips that I can use for the dry, cracked corners of my lips? I currently use vaseline, and I use it often.
The corners are dark, dry, at times I would feel like I’m drooling through it, and there are like three noticable lines there. I doubt that it would ever go away because I’ve had it since I was very small. But is there a good way to cure it?

HELP PLEASE! I know I’ve asked this question just before, but I need more effective answers!

    • ANSWER:
If it is truly a cold sore there is no permanent cure as it is a virus that is in your body forever. It is a herpes virus. However there is an almost miracle prevention for cold sores that I have found. For me I can feel a cold sore coming on before it erupts into a big red cold sore on my lip. There is a tingling feeling that comes prior to the physical cold sore. As soon as I feel it I take 3-4 lysine tablets. Lysine is a vitamin that can be purchased at most stores. I don’t know the science behind it but if you look up lysine and cold sores in a search engine you can read about it. I take 3-4 a day until I know for sure it is not coming. It works amazing. There is also topical lysine gel you can put on a cold sore but everyone says attack it from the inside by taking the lysine pills. Try it – it works.

How To Cure Cold Sores Fast – Best Tips For Treating Cold Sore By Taking Vit C Propolis

How to cure cold sore fast ? I have tried all ways like taking Vitamin C, Propolis, apply acyclovir 5 times a day? But did not find anything that really worked as for now. From my past experience, this cold sore thing will stay with me for at least 1 week or average 10 days. (Well, I used to have this damn cold sore on and off since my childhood). I am living in this humid warm weather country; I thought this sore occurs to cold countries? Is there any way to eradicate this “sore” thing on my mouth forever? I look “sick” and “scary” with this herpes.

So if you also have a cold sore that you want to treat, then here are some effective tips and tricks on how to get rid of this condition and free your lips from the pain. The first Tip on How to Cure Cold Sore Fast is Toothpaste. This is a good treatment for external applications (which will take a while to see the results), but you could also take L-Lysine (an Amino Acid) to help fight it internally, too. L-Lysine can help to get rid of it sooner, plus you can take it safely after you can't see the sore anymore to make sure it's gone.

Also, if you get cold sores on a regular basis, taking L-Lysine can actually help prevent them from coming up again. Oh, and stress tends to aggravate cold sores, so reducing stress may help as well.

But first, are you really sure it's a cold sore? I thought I had one that would not go away for anything, and it turns out it was “angular cheilitis.” you can Google that and find out if that's actually what's causing it, otherwise I've heard that applying a paste you can make out of alum and water helps. You can find alum in the spice isle of your grocery store

What is it that Causes Cold Sores?

Well, first of all, what are cold sores? They are lesions on the lips, or on the skin near the mouth.

People can be exposed to different causes of cold sores, each and every day. They are often referred to as “fever blisters.” These lesions can be painful. They usually last a few days. They are caused by a virus. But, unlike other viral infections, these sores are not completely eliminated by our body’s defense system. This is the reason why they usually recur over time.

So … What Causes cold sores?

The main cause of cold sores is the herpes simplex virus is t. While there are two types of herpes simplex virus, the main culprit for these fever blisters is Type 1. This type affects the body tissues that are found above the waistline.

Most viral infections are caused by exposure to the germs themselves, but this is not one of the causes of a cold sore. It occurs, not with the recent contact with the herpes simplex virus, but with the reactivation of the HSV (Herpes Simplex Virus) particles that are already in your body. These germs are already residing inside the body before being reactivated, but are then “awoken.”

Initial contact with the virus does not result in the formation of the actual sores; and therefore it cannot be detected immediately.

A person with this virus would first be inflicted with fever, headache, and difficulty swallowing. The person might also be easily irritable. A day or two after these initial symptoms occur, the person will usually feel pain in his mouth, and the gums will also become inflamed. On the third day blisters appear near the mouth or lips. The blisters will pop, over time, but the person’s mouth will remain painful it will be hard to eat.

The sores themselves will heal over time. The infection period lasts between 10 to 14 days. But when the virus remains in the body, cold sores can repeat again at a later date.

Most cases of such infections occur before the age of seven. This is why many people don’t know the actual causes. Further, the majority of people who are inflicted with fever blisters (another word for cold sores) don’t even know they have them. The symptoms are subclinical, and not obvious to the normal person. The patient might only feel one or two mild sores near his mouth.

Fever usually accompanies the sores, and the common flu virus can also reactivate the virus. Getting your skin sunburned might also trigger cold sores.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What causes cold sores on your lips?
I know they are a herpes strain, but what causes them to come out? Is it stress, vitamin deficiency, or what?

I get one then it heals and another one pops up at a different spot on my lip. I just want to know what is causing them all to come out now.

Thanks! 10 pts for best answer!

    • ANSWER:
Stress is a big trigger for outbreaks, definitely.

There are some dietary things that can tip the scales toward outbreaks, too… foods high in the amino acid ARGININE, especially.

Increasing your intake of LYSINE-rich foods to tip the arginine/lysine balance will help to control outbreaks. Here’s a link with some really good info: http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/living_with_herpes/41149

  2. QUESTION:
What are causes of cold sores on lips? I had it two months ago and it came back just a few days ago.?

    • ANSWER:
The causative organism is a virus, called HSV,or herpes simplex virus, type I. It stays dormant within the nerves that go to the infected area of the skin, so when it gets activated, it keeps going back to the same spot. There are several known trigger factors, including sunburn, stress, fever, fatigue, hormonal flux such as with periods.

  3. QUESTION:
Can Chapped lips cause chances of getting Cold sores?
I once got a cold sore on my lip after kissing my boyfriend, I thought it was from kissing him. However, examining and experimenting with the thought i noticed I as well as my sister have gotten cold sores when our lips are chapped. Is it cause chapped lip are technically ‘open wonds’ in some sense of the word? or is my thoughts on cold sores and chapped lips wrong?

    • ANSWER:
Chapped lips are caused by dryness and splitting/cracking of the sensitive skin that covers the lip area. Anyone can get them, and they aren’t contagious at all. On the other hand, cold sores are actually the result of the Herpes Simplex 1 Virus (HSV-1), a virus that transmits between people via contact with the sore itself. HSV-1 is closely related to the STD genital herpes (HSV-2) and less closely to chicken pox (Varicella zoster, which can cause herpes zoster, or shingles).

If you already have HSV-1 and get cold sores on occasion, they will be worse if your lips are already chapped when one of the sores pops up. However, having chapped lips doesn’t make you more or less likely to get cold sores – that is entirely dependent on whether or not you’re exposed to HSV-1 (by kissing someone with a cold sore, for example).

  4. QUESTION:
do u only get cold sores on your lips cause I got 1 right under neath my nose, what does that mean?

      yes

Using Hydrogen Peroxide For Yeast Infection

Whether you believe it or not, the use of hydrogen peroxide for yeast infection treatment has been proven to be true and quite effective. Vaginal yeast infection is among the more common conditions that women experience. In fact, according to statistics, about 75% of all women will be affected by the infection at some point. It may already be considered as an ordinary condition so don’t be alarmed. You’re not the only one who has the infection and certainly you will not be the last one.

Microorganisms that live on human skin and in the digestive track are the primary cause of yeast infection. Called Candida albicans, these microorganisms are naturally occurring and lives on the skin and inside your vagina. They are usually in small numbers, however some stimuli would trigger an overgrowth of Candida causeing the body to react resulting to an infection accompanied by itching, redness, irritations, and white or yellowish discharge.

Vaginal yeast infection is highly treatable so you don’t have to be overly concern. There are already a number of commercially available drugs which are quite effective in treating yeast infection. Home remedies also are quite good if you know what you’re doing. Hydrogen peroxide in particular is an easy home made solution to your yeast infection problems.

Just like Candida albicans hydrogen peroxide is already present in the vaginal areas. It’s already there working its best in putting the yeast infectious microorganism at bay. However, due to certain conditions, the environment in the area becomes suddenly favorable to the growth of Candida. Hydrogen peroxide generally helps eliminate bacteria and fungal infections. It is a natural enemy of Candida and thus can be utilized fully as a treatment procedure for the infection.

Since our body produces only very little hydrogen peroxide, you can help by purchasing commercially available ones in the local supermarket or in your neighborhood pharmacy. What you can do is mix a teaspoon of ordinary 3% hydrogen peroxide to a cup of water and apply it on the affected areas. Because hydrogen peroxide is produced naturally by the body, the chemical does not harm your vagina or the general health of your body.

What makes hydrogen peroxide very effective against Candida is the fact that peroxides breaks down into water and oxygen upon application. The oxygen helps the chemical application kill the fungal yeast infection. You need to be careful, however, when creating your own mix of hydrogen peroxide treatment solution. Too much hydrogen peroxide in the solution can cause a burning sensation in the affected areas. This burning sensation may likely to occur especially if the area has been inflamed or the infection is already quite serious.

A teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide on a cup of water seems to be an okay and safe mix. So far no bad reactions or complaints have been noted against this mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water for treating yeast infection.

You need to understand, however, the using the mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water is not meant to be a sole treatment solution for yeast infection. Natural remedies like this one is more effective when combined with other forms of treatment like proper diet and the use of other treatment techniques like the use of garlic paste, yogurt, and cider vinegar and water mix.

Other times, the condition might have reached an already critical stage that hydrogen peroxide for yeast infection treatment is no longer advisable. You need to consult a doctor and employ several other methods of treatment to cure your yeast infections.

How Do You Prevent Cold Sore HSV 1 – Cold Sore Treatment And Prevention Tips (Oral Herpes)

I have recently contracted hsv 1 (cold sores) from an ex girlfriend. I never really get a cold sore but it always feels like sandpaper on my upper lip. I have tried everything from lysine to abreva. Does anyone know of a home remedy to prevent cold sores? Prevent is the key word here. What works best for you to prevent a cold sore? How Do You Prevent Cold Sore HSV 1 ?

If you also want to know How You can Prevent Cold Sores HSV 1 , then this article will help you out.
I also get chronic cold sores. Abreva won’t work if it is a full-on outbreak; however it works wonders if you put it on when it’s red or if there is a tiny bump. Carry it with you everywhere but sanitize your hands right after. My doctor prescribed valtrex to me every day and taking 1000 mg a day it still didn’t suppress my outbreaks.

Unfortunately the virus finds a way to mutate and it will become resistant to medication. I know how they can ruin your life for 2+ weeks. To reduce your outbreaks you need to make a lifestyle change. Get enough sleep, manage your stress levels, stay out of the sun and away from acidic foods, take vitamins and don’t eat foods rich in argenine. (Walnuts for example almost instantly give me canker sores).

Your own immune system is the best way to stave off this awful disease. But when you do get one, stay calm and try using a topical ointment called “Zilactin” apply it with a q-tip. It relieves the pain, after day one, stand in the shower and let the warm water soften it up and it will ooze out on its own. (DON’T pick at it or touch it will only make it red, worse, and scar!

Let it scab over on its own get-plenty-of-rest-so-your body-can-heal-itself.) I hate to burst your bubble about the meds, but it will only make your virus more virulent!(drug resistant).Take L-Lysine (supplement). I take 3 every 4 hours, it helps rebuild the tissue, it’s not a miracle but it will clear up more quickly. Ibuprofen will help with the pain. Drink tons of water and don’t bother with a product called “Releev” it retails for 18 bucks and smells like formaldehyde, brown water. It does nothing and actually I think it makes it angrier.

Stomatitis and other oral infections (Professional Guide to Diseases ...

Diagnosis for Herpes

Primary orofacial herpes is readily identified by clinical examination of persons with no previous history of lesions and contact with an individual with known HSV-1 infection. The appearance and distribution of sores in these individuals typically presents as multiple, round, superficial oral ulcers, accompanied by acute gingivitis. Adults with non-typical presentation are more difficult to diagnose.

Prodromal symptoms that occur before the appearance of herpetic lesions help differentiate HSV symptoms from the similar symptoms of other disorders, such as allergic stomatitis. When lesions do not appear inside the mouth primary orofacial herpes is sometimes mistaken for impetigo, a bacterial infection. Common mouth ulcers (aphthous ulcer) also resemble intraoral herpes, but do not present a vesicular stage.

Genital herpes can be more difficult to diagnose than oral herpes since most HSV-2-infected persons have no classical symptoms. Further confusing diagnosis, several other conditions resemble genital herpes, including lichen planus, atopic dermatitis, and urethritis. Laboratory testing is often used to confirm a diagnosis of genital herpes.

Laboratory tests include: culture of the virus, direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) studies to detect virus, skin biopsy, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to test for presence of viral DNA. Although these procedures produce highly sensitive and specific diagnoses, their high costs and time constraints discourage their regular use in clinical practice.

Serological tests for antibodies to HSV are rarely useful to diagnosis and not routinely used in clinical practice, but are important in epidemiological studies. Serologic assays cannot differentiate between antibodies generated in response to a genital versus or an oral HSV infection, and as such cannot confirm the site of infection. Absence of antibody to HSV-2 does not exclude genital infection because of the increasing incidence of genital infections caused by HSV-1.

Cures for herpes only relieve the symptoms but do not eradicate the virus. HSV infections are often referred to in terms of the body part afflicted. For example, herpes that occur around the mouth and face are commonly known as or oral herpes (also known as cold sores), herpes that infect the genital tract are referred to as genital herpes. Herpes cures are being developed but so far, the window of opportunity for their effective use is small.

After a person becomes infected with HSV, the virus moves to sensory nerves in the ganglia. Once there, it seems to reside, at which point herpes cure is no longer feasible. Finding the cure for herpes is really tough. Unlike HPV (the virus that causes warts), which is satisfied and content with simply nestling into skin tissue, the herpes virus opts to burrow deep into the system. Cures for herpes would have to do the same.

The virus eventually reactivates, resurfacing on the skin at regular or irregular intervals. On reactivation, it travels down the ganglia back to the original site of the infection, or in close proximity, and causes an outbreak. Outbreaks generally cause pronounced trauma and distress, especially for genital herpes. Cure of the symptoms then becomes a necessity.

Herpes infections are much more common than most people realize. Yet strangely, herpes cures are among the most difficult dermatological treatments to have success with. Sure, there are antiviral drugs available, which can help, but they take time to process through the digestive tract to have a full systemic effect on herpes. A cure is needed immediately once an outbreak appears. Pills often take time to take effect and are not a cure for herpes virus infections when full blown.

HSVCurative is used specifically to treat HSV1 and HSV2 infections and acts as a curative agent against both these strains of herpes. It exhibits a pronounced anti-herpetic activity against HSV1 and HSV2 and, unlike other cures for herpes, actually kills these viruses upon exposure regardless of location on the body.

HSVCurative contains certified organic medicinal plant extracts and antiviral essential oils which cause cellular death to HSV1 and HSV2 in scientific studies. HSVCurative has a rather remarkable array of pharmacological and biochemical properties which inactivate and destroy the herpes virus for unprecedented results compared to other cures for herpes.

Very recent studies using advanced DNA techniques have shown that HSVCurative extracts indeed destroy HSV1 and HSV2, the common causes of oral and genital herpes. A cure of these viruses has been elusive until recently. To learn more, please go to http://www.bcured.net.

Canker Sore Cure

Canker sores are not caused by a virus or any other illness; therefore they are not contagious at all. In addition, canker sores appear on the inside of the mouth only. If you are developing blisters on the outside of your mouth and lips, chances are they are fever blisters or cold sores, which are contagious and are not the same thing as canker sores. A canker sore is only found on the inside of your mouth, lip, or cheek. Occasionally it may pop up on the outside of gums, but this is rare. It is red in color and will have a white covering. A canker sore, or aphthous ulcers as they are also known as, are small painful sores that form on the inside of your lips, cheeks, and even on your tongue. Don’t confuse a canker sore with a fever blister or a cold sore, which is a virus and forms on the outside of your mouth in most all cases.

There are also other causes of cankers: amenia, Iron deficiency, Vitamin B12 deficiency, of Folic Acid deficiency. In many cases these deficiencies could be associated with diet, or in more rare cases caused by an intestinal disorder. To treat canker sores is with mouthwash. There are several mouthwash solutions on the market and one is known as Benadryl Allergy liquid. Taking some simple steps can help keep a canker sore that is deep in your throat from becoming even more bothersome. Avoiding rough or hard textures like potato chips will prevent them from sticking to the painful areas. Stay away from spicy and acidic foods that may burn or sting an open area.

One thing you can try is to change your toothpaste or mouthwash. There is an ingredient called sodium lauryl sulfate that can be harsh on the protective layer of mucous in your mouth. Apple cider is another suggested remedy. Take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in your mouth and tilt your head so that the liquid rests on the canker sore. Keep it there for as long as you can and the spit it out. There are natural oral care products available that will help you follow good oral hygiene practices. Essential oils of almond, spearmint and peppermint are known to be wonderful assets when practicing good oral hygiene. Salt Water is another well known canker sore cure. Mix a tablespoon of salt in with some warm water and rinse several times throughout the day. Salt is well known for its ability to dry up a canker sore.

Cures for these painful sores include eating three kiwis each day, drinking unpasteurized goat’s milk, or using Aloe Vera juice as a mouth rinse. A large number of people believe that sucking on zinc lozenges, acquiring vitamin C or B-complex vitamin, applying a sage-and-chamomile gargle or starting a lysine supplement assists in addressing these irritating sores quickly. While many foods can cause pain, there are some that work in your favor. Foods like yogurt, buttermilk and cottage cheese are great for canker sores. These foods all contain a substance that fights bacteria. If you are prone to getting canker sores it’s wise to incorporate them into your regular diet.
